melchior McElch's finest I is a compilation of 17 very different song. opening with the cineastic 20th century fox fanfare it rises from the hungarian "suicide hymn" by seress rezsô and other sad songs, sweeps over broken heart subjects, and finally arrives at la felicitas, the joyous anthem of the italian 1970ies tv series herr rossi sucht das glück.
Made with Sonic Foundry's CD architect 5.0, almost all tracks surprise with a genteel transition to its next - in rhythm, harmony or even in sound.
marvalley is a composition of blausand and taken from his debut album örliwörx.

[2] björk - gloomy sunday - 5:25

GLOOMY SUNDAY (englisch)
Sunday is gloomy
My hours are slumberless
Dearest the shadows
I live with are numberless
Little white flowers
Will never awaken you
Not where the black coach
Of sorrow has taken you
Angels have no thoughts
Of ever returning you
Would they be angry
If I thought of joining you?

Gloomy Sunday

Gloomy is Sunday
With shadows I spend it all
My heart and I
Have decided to end it all
Soon there'll be candles
And prayers that are said I know
But let them not weep
Let them know that I'm glad to go
Death is no dream
For in death I’m caressing you
With the last breath of my soul
I’ll be blessing you

Gloomy Sunday

Dreaming, I was only dreaming
I wake and I find you asleep
In the deep of my heart here
Darling I hope
That my dream never haunted you
My heart is telling you
How much I wanted you

Gloomy Sunday

(sarah vaughan:
dreaming, i was only dreaming
i felt my heart melt
when i dreamed that we two were apart
far apart, far far far apart )

SZOMORÚ VASÁRNAP (hungarian - ungarisch)

JÁVOR LÁSZLÓ:
Szomorú vasárnap száz fehér virággal,
Vártalak kedvesem templomi imával.
Álmokat kergetô vasárnap délelôtt,
Bánatom hintaja nélküled visszajött.
Azóta szomorú mindig a vasárnap,

Szomorú vasárnap.

Utolsó vasárnap kedvesem gyere el
Pap is lesz, koporsó, ravatal, gyászlepel.
Akkor is virág vár, virág és — koporsó,
Virágos fák alatt utam az utolsó.
Nyitva lesz szemem hogy még egyszer lássalak,
Ne félj a szememtôl holtan is áldalak...

Meghalt a szeretet!

Vége a világnak, vége a reménynek
Városok pusztulnak, srapnelek zenélnek
Emberek vérétôl piros a tarka rét,
Halottak fekszenek az úton szerteszét.
Még egyszer elmondom csendben az imámat:
Uram, az emberek gyarlók és hibáznak...

Vége a világnak!

das lied vom traurigen sonntag (deutsch)

Trauriger Sonntag,
dein Abend ist nicht mehr weit.
Mit schwarzen Schatten
teil' ich meine Einsamkeit.
Schließ' ich die Augen,
dann seh' ich sie hundertfach.
Ich kann nicht schlafen,
und sie werden nie mehr wach.
Ich seh' Gestalten zieh'n
im Zigarettenrauch,
laßt mich nicht hier,
sagt den Engeln, ich komme auch.
Einsame Sonntage hab' ich zu viel verbracht.
Heut' mach' ich mich auf den Weg
in die lange Nacht.
Bald brennen Kerzen,
und Rauch macht die Augen feucht.
Weint doch nicht, Freunde,
denn endlich fühl' ich mich leicht.
Der Atemzug bringt mich für immer heim.
Im Reich der Schatten werd' ich geborgen sein

[3] st otten - EUKALYPTUS
written 2000 by sandkämper, otten.
taken from eleganz CD 09: "st otten - stille tage im klischee"

einer hat nur einen arm
damit er nichts auffangen kann

ein andrer hat kein augenlicht
denn ohne das sieht er mich nicht

der dritte trägt ein schwarzes kleid
er weiß über pietät bescheid

gib mir frieden für mein gehirn
leg mir eukalyptus auf die stirn

der erste hält mich sanft am arm
obgleich er nur den einen halten kann

der zweite irrt im raum herum
findet mich nicht - seis drum

der dritte schließt den letzten knopf
an seinen kleid - schüttelt den kopf

gib mir frieden für mein gehirn
leg mir eukalyptus auf die stirn
endlich frieden - es wird so klar
leg mir eukalyptus in mein haar

ich schwing mich hoch, bin endlich frei
wir gehn alle mit: es ist vorbei

gib mir frieden für mein gehirn
leg mir eukalyptus auf die stirn
endlich frieden - es wird so klar
leg mir eukalyptus in mein haar

gib mir frieden für mein gehirn
leg mir eukalyptus auf die stirn
endlich frieden - mir wird klar
daß das da eben ein ganzes leben war.

Wake, from your sleep
The drying of your tears
Today we escape, we escape

Pack, and get dressed
Before your father hears us
Before all hell breaks loose

Breathe, keep breathing
Don't lose your nerve
Breathe, keep breathing
I can't do this alone

Sing, us a song
A song to keep us warm
There's such a chill
Such a chill

You can laugh
A spineless laugh
We hope your rules and wisdom choke you
Now we are one in everlasting peace

We hope that you choke, that you choke
We hope that you choke, that you choke
We hope that you choke, that you choke

this recording taken from "Tatort - die songs"

somewhere over the rainbow way up high
there's a land that i heard of once in a lullaby
somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
and the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true

someday i'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me
where troubles melt like lemon drops away above the chimney tops
that's where you'll find me

somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
birds fly over the rainbow why then oh why can't i?

(if happy little rainbirds fly
across the rainbow
why oh why can't i?)

[9] björk - you only live twice - 4:21
"James Bond 007 - you only live twice" main theme composed 1967 by john barry, originally sung by shirley bassey.
this live recording by björk undated.

you only live twice or so its seems
one life for your self and one for your dreams
you drift through the years and live seems tame
till one dream appears and love is its name

and love is a stranger who'll beckon you on
don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone
this dream is for you - so pay the price
make one dream come true - you only live twice

[10] sting - angel eyes - 4:01
originally written by Matt Denis and Earl Brent.
taken from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack "Leaving Las Vegas" performed by sting.

Have you ever had the feeling
That the world's gone and left you behind
Have you ever had the feeling
That you're that close to losing your mind

You look around each corner
Hoping that she's there
You try to play it cool perhaps
Pretend that you don't care

But it doesn't do a bit of good
You got to seek till you find
Are you never unwind

Try to think
That love is not around
Still it's uncomfortably near

My old heart
Ain't gaining no ground
Because my angel eyes ain't here

[16] baz luhrmann - everybody's free (to wear sunscreen) - 5:09
text by mary smich, read by baz luhrmann. (c)1999 bazmark

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of 99: wear sunscreen.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.
I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are not as fat as you imagine.
Don't worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.
Do one thing everyday that scares you
Sing
Dont be reckless with other peoples hearts, dont put up with people who are reckless with yours.
Floss
Dont waste your time on jealousy; sometimes youre ahead, sometimes you're behind. the race is long, and in the end, its only with yourself.
Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how. Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.
Stretch
Dont feel guilty if you dont know what you want to do with your life: the most interesting people I know didnt know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.
Get plenty of calcium. Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.
Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't, maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary; what ever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either. your choices are half chance, so are everybody elses.
Enjoy your body, use it every way you can. don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, its the greatest instrument you'll ever own..
Dance - even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.
Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they'll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future. Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography in lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do youll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Dont expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.
Dont mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen.

[17] herr rossi - herr rossi sucht sein glück - 1:45
"questo la felicita"
composed by franco godi, performed by the franco godi ensemble. (c)1975

Ja, Herr Rossi sucht das Glück,
Sucht man es so fehlt ein Stück,
Es fehlt ein Stück zum Glück.
("gestatten, Rossi")

Ja, Herr Rossi hat 'nen Wunsch:
Eis vom Nordpol flambiert mit Punsch
Eine Schokoladenburg
Einen Kuchen, 6 Kaffee,
20 Törtchen, dazu Tee.
WAS NOCH, WAS NOCH, WAS NOCH?

Ja, Herr Rossi möcht' noch mehr
So ein Auto macht was her
Auch mal Sekt statt immer Milch
Mal wie Reiche sich benehmen
In der Spielbank Geld ausgeben.
WAS NOCH, WAS NOCH, WAS NOCH?

Ja, Herr Rossi sucht das Glück,
Er will nur vom Glück ein Stück,
Herr Rossi sucht das Glück

Andere können alles haben
Können sich am Feinsten laben
Und von eben diesen Gaben
Möcht Herr Rossi auch was haben

SONNE
HIMMEL
WASSER
STRAND UND SONNE
BERGE
ECHO
BLUMEN
ZWANZIG BLUMEN

Ja, das wär' Herr Rossis Glück,
Da fehlt mehr als nur ein Stück,
Mehr als nur ein Stück zum Glück

Lalalalalalalalalalalala...
